Tools to avoid plagiarism

As stated in its Code of Ethics and Conduct, Politecnico “promotes the integrity of research, condemns manipulationand the infringement of intellectual property”, and gives opportunity to all those who carry out research activities to have an adequate training on ethical conduct and integrity while doing research.

For contrasting any form of plagiarism the University has equipped researchers and professors with a software which facilitates their activity in checking and evaluating the originality of their students’ Graduation and Doctoral Theses.

In compliance with the rules on Copyright (Law, 22nd April 1941, n. 633) this tool, available only for teachers, aims to prevent plagiarism through awareness raising actions for the correct use of citations, and to encourage a honest behavior in the students during the preparation of their papers.

Turnitin

for doctoral papers and theses

Turnitin makes a comparison between the text of a document subject to verification and millions of indexed texts within its databases, releasing a report wherein the potentially copied parts and their sources are highlighted.

Turnitin has implemented the artificial intelligence (AI) detection feature to help teachers identify the use of AI writing tools, such as ChatGPT, in student-delivered papers.

Turnitin has been adopted by the Doctoral School to check the originality of Doctoral theses, but it may also be used to check the originality of documents and/or papers written by doctoral students during their career at the Politecnico.
