If you happen to lose a book or have it stolen, report it as soon as possible to the library.
The loan will be deleted only after the book is re-purchased or a refund is provided.
The suspension shall be revoked or reduced only if the loss or theft of the book is reported immediately, and it is re-purchased or a refund is provided straight away.
Penalties are applied when books are returned more than 3 working days after the due date.
If you return books after the due date you will be suspended from using library services for a period of time proportionate to the amount of time they were returned after the deadline, according to the following methods:
- from the 4th working day after the due date: 20 day suspension (fixed penalty) + number of days between due date and actual return date. Example: books returned 4 working days after the deadline = 24 days (20 + 4 = 24)
- the suspension is visible in the Personal Area of the catalogue.
- If you have several books on loan and have accumulated a different number of overdue days, the suspension is calculated according to the book that was returned the latest.
As an alternative to suspension, in the Milano libraries you can opt to pay a fine calculated on the basis of the accumulated lateness of your returns, according to the following rules:
- from the 4th working day after the due date: initial fixed penalty of 2.50 euro + 0.50 euro per day.
- only working days are counted.
- this method of calculation is applied to every overdue loan.
1 book returned late by 4 working days: 2.50 euro + 0.50x4 euro = 4.50 euro
2 books returned late by 4 working days: (2.50 + 0.50x4 euro) + (2.50 + 0.50x4) = 9.00 euro
- the amount of the fine is visible in the Personal Area of the catalogue.
- the payment of fines results in the immediate cancellation of the suspension, but only if all late books are returned and all fines have been paid.
- if you have several books on loan and have accumulated a different number of overdue days, the fine is calculated by summing the single fines relative to each overdue book.
- you have the option of paying a fine only for loans from Milano campuses' libraries
If you fail to pick up a requested or reserved document, you will be suspended from using the services of all University libraries, in the following ways:
- failure to collect a book requested for loan or consultation: suspension of 3 days from the expiry of the request.
- failure to collect a reserved book - which at the time of the reservation was on loan: suspension of 3 days from the expiry of the reservation.
- failure to collect a book requested on an intra-univeristy loan: suspension of 15 days from the 5th working day .after receiving the email notification.
- failure to collect a book requested on an interlibrary loan: suspension of 30 days from the 5th working day .after receiving the email notification.
In your Personal Area of the catalogue you can see your deadlines and cancel pending requests and reservations that no longer interest you before the deadlines.
