The Masotti and Masotti-Tartaglia fonds

Arnaldo Masotti (1902 -1989)

Engineer, mathematician, historian of mathematics and scientific thought, book lover and full professor of rational mechanics at the Politecnico di Milano's architecture faculty of which he was dean from 1935 to 1939. He directed the Institute of Mathematics from 1964 to 1973.

The Arnaldo Masotti fonds is made up of 2 documentary series which came to the Politecnico at different times from the former Biblioteca Centrale di Ingegneria where they were previously kept. A first set of 11 bundles and a second, 25 bundles, of a monographic type documenting A. Masotti's work on Brescia mathematician Niccolò Tartaglia (1499-1557).  Both collections comprise correspondence, manuscripts, designs, monographs and booklets.
The Politecnico also has a library fonds named after Arnaldo Masotti kept at Biblioteca Centrale di Architettura.

It was reunited with the Archivi Storici in 2013.
